Flohmarkt, Mauerpark

Bored on a Sunday? Running out of clothes AND money? Get yourself down to Mauerpark.

Mauerpark is one of Berlin’s most popular flea markets. Open every Sunday from 9am to 6pm, visitors can expect to find hidden treasures from antique furniture and denim jackets, to family photos and Cold War memorabilia. Most items are relatively cheap, and those heading there in the afternoon are likely to be rewarded as prices get slashed by sellers ready to close up for the day. On my last visit I bagged two pairs of shoes for €3, while a friend got a fake fur coat for just €1.

The flea market also shares the park with a giant amphitheatre, where Mauerpark Karaoke runs every Sunday after. Hundreds of people sit on the stone steps and watch brave singers get up to perform. It might seem absolutely terrifying, by all those who dare are met with rapturous applause to rival Wembley. If you’ve dreamt of taking centre stage but can’t really sing – it’s ok. This is your chance to shine.
